After making the new Wolf Players group and thinking about which ones should get tagged, it's again reminded me just how bloated the post window gets when part of a ton of usergroups.

I'm pretty sure some others, like @Tommy Boy, have shared this sentiment previously that it's too much bloat. So my initial question is, do a majority of other people agree that they take up too much space, and if so what alternatives would people prefer?

My thoughts so far have been to either display only the top usergroup on the postbit, condense it down to just the icons and line them up in a single row, or maybe marquee them so they scroll but only take up the physical space of 1 tag.

Quick rough-up, but something like this? Kind of just turns them into more badges, though... :thinking

I like the icons, but, it’ll be one of those things we’ll have to explain at some point, so it might be worth me drafting up a key to go along with the rules or “welcome” thread or wherever it would be most fitting.

Definitely agree. I'd try to throw an alt-text full description on hover, at least. I'm not too savvy on all the fancy CSS stuff XF uses but it might be possible to have it unfold to show the full title on hover, instead of using the actual tooltip like you get hovering over badges.

When I can really commit to it later, I think I'll make a couple of template copies and see what I can come up with. Then I can actually present those instead of the hypothetical.

Why don't we remove them from the postbit? They still show up in the usercard when you hover over a username :shrug

Or we turn off banner stacking so only one shows up.

I think we turned on banner stacking early on when one of our more illustrious members demanded visibility for their custom user group and it was the only way we could make it supersede their staff level.

There’s always a reason why the simplest solution wasn’t used first, and it’s usually dumb.

Fair enough!

You won a popsicle! But Mark ate it because you didn't read the post in time.
I won a popsicle?

I actually like the way it is with the bloat, I just don't have a lot of the group tag things so one of my attacks when I have nothing else is "look how dang long your heck is!" when in reality, I'd love a heck of my own that size. :chuckle

Is there a way to make it expandable like the D&D information is?

Speaking of illustrious members…

I think you're mistaking me for shortkut again
Missed opportunity to pull a @Jon and say "Expandable, not expendable" there.

While we're talking about this can someone fix the T-Bone tag so it's the same width as the others. The Wolf Players one also looks like it's shorter by like a pixel or two.

But I AM expendable!

You know, in all of this, I saw that too... but I couldn't tell if it was the same size but because dark mode, the outline blended in or not. I assumed that was the case and ignored it.

They... Shouldn't be smaller than each other..? :thinking

I'd think it more likely a result of whatever color was picked for the "outline". The T-Bone one might be set at black which is why it looks like it's smaller against the dark background.

Oh... Yeah, it is. I just switched style.

They're all the same width, you just can't really tell on dark backgrounds. I can change the outline color if it bothers you.

It’ll slow the shitposters down too much. They’ll actually have to wait for a post to come back around before they can reply.

…wait…

Can we marquee the reply buttons?
I'm sure it'd be possible through the fancy CSS styling now, to just make the reply button run away and teleport to another part of the screen when you try to click it.

For now, I'll have to be content to Marquee Mark.

I think everything should be on a marquee. It would save a lot of vertical space, and just think about how fun reading long posts would be!
Or unnecessarily vertical.

Funky.

It would take approximately 17.5 years for @Raine and I to have exactly 1 exchange of dialogue.

Or unnecessarily vertical.

@Jon can run every post of his back like a Star Wars prologue.

Yes. And as long as he's free, I plan to use him.

Oh, there’s a cost alright…

Ain’t nothing like seeing a 6ft+ man sitting on your end table with a blue light on his head saying “Doot Doot” and telling you the time in a broken British accent.

I would welcome this. It's nice to let others see the hell I've put myself in.

I read that wrong at first and I assumed the blue light was hung like an Angler fish, and also read "Noot Noot" like Pingu.

So that too.
