Ants! magical library bulletin board thread

One of my duties as a Teen Tech is to update the bulletin board in our Teens section once a month. Some of these are "meh" but others I'm quite proud of. The November one is the first time I started using our cricket for cutting out letters (and other things like leaves and snowflakes). I started this job partway into April, so May was my first one.

May:

Can't find the one for June through August 15th (during the summer reading program I was allowed to do just one and keep it up for the entire thing), but no loss because that was my lamest one and I don't care about it. I did this one for the second half of August:

September:

October:

November:

December:

And easily my favoritist one yet, January:

Man, who the fuck tried to put their card in the printer and couldn't release their prints between September and October? Dumbass.

Lmao. To be fair though, they do actually have card readers on them, they just don't function and are taped over. I guess somebody didn't take the hint and tried using them anyway.

Also, I don't have a ladder to work with. Every time I change it I have to stand on the table stepping around the monitors, and on the far left side I actually have to go get this little metal table and move the money machine that's hooked up to the black and white printer.

And that fucking wifi box that plugs in right in the middle of my bulletin board is a big pain in the ass 😂

I'm really tempted lol
Do It Episode 3 GIF by Star Wars

That would technically be possible, as I know how to do mosaics with Adobe (used it for printing large pictures on some of the boards like the star wars fighters or the giant moon for example), but I calculate that it would take about 75 sheets of full-page color prints, and not sure if I'd get away with that. lol

Pay for it with your own money. Then they can't say shit.

What's 75 prints of paper? Like $5? Do it. But don't ask yourself for change, I don't think you give it.

Color is 50 cents a page, so $37.50! Patrons get $2 of free prints a day though, so I could just do it over 19 days and pay nothing! Ha.

@Ants! Thank you for finally archiving your fine work. :clappingPetition to do something about the sign:

Can we jazz it up a little, or is that outside of your jurisdiction? lol
They would probably let me, though it's not my responsibility (and I'm lazy!)

I initially read "prints" as "pints" and thought this was one of the more interesting libraries I'd heard of.

Nah. In fact sometime during my first few weeks here, we had to suspend one of the patrons for bringing in alcohol. It was a whole thing.

One day a member of staff found him passed out with puke all over himself, they woke him and checked to make sure he was okay. Staff member just thought he was sick. The poor janitor had to clean it all up. The next day the dude came back, sat in the same chair. Puked again but didn't say anything about it. The janitor found the mess the next morning. At that point he pulled up the carpet squares and replaced them, since they've been puked on twice and this time had been allowed to sit like that for hours. Guy came back again, stayed all day. I heard him sobbing a few times. We suspected he might have been kicked out of wherever he was living, like maybe his wife threw him out or something. This time he tried to stay even as we were closing. 8pm buddy, time to leave! We're locking up and going home. Nope. The deputy had to grab him by the arm and make him leave. He was visibly drunk, and we found empty bottles where he was sitting. Explains the puke from the previous days. We checked the cameras the following morning, he hung around outside almost all night. Left at 1am for a little while and came back, stayed until 3am and then left again for good. We had to issue him a two-week suspension from the library when he came in the next day. That was like seven or eight months ago, but I haven't seen him again since. Hope he's doing okay.

Oh Lord, here we go. Funny coincidence that I tell you guys that story and today ends up being the second incident of a drunk person since I started working there.

I was scheduled to leave at 5 PM today, my coworker at the desk next to me was scheduled until 6 PM. Sometime during the last half hour or so of my shift, this lady came up and asked my coworker for help, and after she was done helping her, she trapped her in a conversation about being a writer and kept asking nosy questions. I heard her ask about ghostwriters. I could tell my coworker was starting to get a little annoyed, which is unusual for her because usually nothing phases her and she's the most helpful person I've ever met in any service job. She was still helping her at the computer when I left. I still didn't think anything was out of the ordinary, but then about an hour laterI get an email with this incident report:

At around 5pm, Reference Librarian J approached me in the children's area and said a patron on the computer was making her uncomfortable. I asked what happened and she said that a patron on the computers was asking about ghostwriters, but that she may have been drunk. I asked if she could smell alcohol on her breath and she said yes. I asked J to point the patron out to me and she did (middle aged woman with blonde hair and thick glasses, wearing a grey jacket and jeans). I wanted to confirm the smell of alcohol, so I walked past the patron toward the Deputy D. However, she was facing away from me at the computer, so I couldn't smell anything.

I asked D if he could accompany me in the children's room so I could ask him something, as I did not want to discuss the patron in the patron's presence to avoid causing a scene. I let him know that Jennifer told me she suspected the patron was intoxicated, as she smelled like alcohol. He shook his head and said "Yes, I figured she might be a problem when she walked in."

I printed out a copy of the Patron Code of Conduct and highlighted the appropriate rule to give to the patron. We also looked up the card number she was using for her computer session and determined she was AF.

At this point, Ms. F had walked away from the computer and was using the courtesy phone. Deputy D, J, and I approached, maintaining a distance so the patron could have privacy while on the phone. However, I did hear her say "Can you come get me? I'm at the library, I think I'm about to get in trouble."

When she hung up the phone, she turned to us and, in a calm demeanor asked what was wrong. I told her that I was the branch manager and someone informed me that they smelled alcohol on her breath. She said "of course" in a manner that seemed to be confirmation. I let her know that unfortunately, she would have to leave for the day, as being intoxicated (or appearing to be intoxicated) on library property was not allowed. She stood there for a few seconds, contemplating and then walked toward her things at the computer area.

At this point, she started talking, half to us and half to herself. I was only able to catch snippets of what she was saying, but she used profanities like "fucking" and "shit". She was not raising her voice, but her tone was very annoyed. At some point, she zipped up her jacket, impatiently, then grabbed her bag which caused her to knock her drink over and spill it on the floor. I could hear her say "I'm not drunk, I haven't brushed my teeth, my breath just stinks!"

Deputy D told her she would still have to leave for the day and they both started walking toward the door. However, she kept turning around to pepper in phrases about how she "wasn't bothering anyone" and how she thought she had "made some real progress." About halfway between the circulation desk and the front door, she said "Can I go put my lipstick on? I have to go use the bathroom." We allowed her to go in, and waited for her to return.

When she came back out, she seemed more irate that we were asking her to leave. She and Deputy D walked out the front door into the parking lot. I told Ms. F that I knew she was waiting for someone to pick her up, so she was welcome to stay on the bench while she waited. She said "I'm not waiting on shit!"

At this point, Deputy D took over. I could not hear all of their conversation, but I did hear "I'm not homeless, I own a $300,000 house!" although I am not sure what the context of this was. I couldn't hear very well, so I was only catching things like "Lawyer" and "Shame on you!" I also heard "I'm just stinky. What if I took a sobriety test?" During this exchange, her tone became more aggressive and her voice rose. From in the lobby, I could hear that her words were slurred.

Soon after, she started to walk quickly into the parking lot, although she kept turning around to say things to Deputy D. I could not make out what she was saying, but her tone was aggressive and her voice was loud. While this was happening, another patron got out of her car and started to approach the building. Ms. F stopped the patron and spoke with her. At some point, the other patron got her phone out and put it on speakerphone so Ms. F could speak to someone. I couldn't hear what was happening. The second patron walked toward the entrance and said "wow, you never know what you're going to get." I asked her if she was okay, and she said yes. I apologized for what happened, if she was made uncomfortable, and she said "oh don't worry about it, these things happen."

When I turned back around, Ms. F was walking across the parking lot toward the intersection of Old Hammond Hwy and Flannery Road. When she was off the property, Deputy D and I walked back into the building. He said "she said she was coming back, but not today."

I thanked him for his help and he said "I could tell she was drunk because when she came out of the bathroom, I got a big whiff of alcohol."

I did not originally intend to suspend Ms. F for more than one day, but due to her actions toward the deputy, I am going to request a suspension of one week.

At approximately 4:45 P.M. a patron called me over to her station to get help. She seemed confused about how to log in and told me she didn't know how to use computers, so I showed her how to log in. The patron appeared upset and told me her home was being foreclosed on and she thought her boyfriend was "in on it." She said he had stolen her phone and other things, and she had important documents in her email.
I assisted her in logging into her email. The patron became teary several times while I assisted her, but regained her composure quickly. Once in the email, she quickly found the document she wanted, and I showed her how to send it to the printer. She found another email she needed, but the link that she needed to follow had expired. I showed her the contact phone number in the email, and the courtesy phone, so that she could reach the company and get a new link.
While the patron made her call, I released the prints and brought them to her, then returned to my desk. She called me back over and said the number was bad and her ex-boyfriend had called. I offered to help her find another way to contact the company, but she instead began asking me about how the library helped writers. I began to tell her about our self-publishing options, but she cut me off to ask how to get a ghostwriter. I told her I would go look that information up and went to my desk to do so.
The patron followed me and began telling me about her writing and asking if I wrote. I gave short answers while looking up the ghostwriter information. I found a directory of ghostwriters and brought the patron back to her computer station, where I pulled it up and explained how to search for ghostwriters, then returned to my desk.
The patron called me back over to the station, and said "You don't have to talk to me if you don't want to." I told her I was happy to help, and again showed her how to search for ghostwriters. The patron refused to use the website, instead trying to get me to select someone for her. When I would not, she asked me to read the profiles to her.
At this time, my manager, K, walked past on her way to cover a desk. I excused myself from the patron and went to tell K that I was trying to disengage from the patron. K asked what was going on, and I explained that I suspected the patron was drunk. K asked if I could smell alcohol on her, and I said yes. K explained that was a violation of policy, and had me pull up a copy of the policy to give the patron while she went to check if she could smell any alcohol and also get the deputy. Neither of them could smell alcohol, and they suspected it was because the patron had not been talking to them.
K printed the policy and offered to speak to the patron and let me witness the interaction so I could learn how to handle these situations. When we reached the patron, she was using the courtesy phone. At the same time, a patron came up asking to reserve the Study Room. No one else was at the Reference Desk, so K sent me back to help the patron. Another patron stopped me to ask for more time on their PC, which I took care of. While this was happening, K spoke to the initial patron, who gathered her things and stopped by the restroom as she was escorted out.
When I returned to the front, K and the deputy had escorted the patron outside. I saw the patron had left her library card, and K returned it to her, then asked me to go clean the station, as the patron had spilled their drink. I did this, and C, another supervisor, asked me what was going on, so I explained the situation to her. She told me she had also had strange dealings with the patron. K returned and informed us she was going to write an incident report. She said there had been a situation which the deputy had handled. K asked C and me to write out accounts of our interactions with the patron, and we all returned to our desks to do so. The deputy stayed outside with the patron, who was waiting for a ride.

If these are real names, you should alias that shit. Never know who might get upset their name is somewhere.

Okay so "C" finally posted her own update on the incident report. Worth a read lol

Yesterday afternoon, between 4:00 and 5:00 p.m., The aforementioned patron A F came to the circulation desk when she first entered the library. I was helping a couple of patrons who were getting library cards, so spoke with our page, N. She first said that she walked here and N asked if she needed some water. She replied " No I got coke".. and raised up her water bottle. She then said that she needed to make some copies, and then said she needed to print, then said she needed to use the computer. (She is slurring her words and talking in circles during this exchange). N asked if she needed a guest pass...She said "No. I'm a citizen." Then she stated that she had a library card. N stated that she could sign on to the computer with her library card. She responded "last time there was a guy that helped me and he was really nice". And then she walked away towards the computers. A little later, Joseph (our Teen staff member) assisted her at the computer. She returned a little bit later to the Circulation desk to use the courtesy phone. The person she dialed, called back and asked if someone had called a C W. So I asked her if she had called him and she said yes. She spoke with him briefly and asked if he could come and pick her up. When she hung up the phone.. she proclaimed to me "I hate men". I responded with "They can be difficult sometimes". I thought our exchange was over. She then went back down to the courtesy phone and stated again in a delayed response.."No...I hate men. I don't mean mildy...I REALLY hate men. They're just...ughh" She then left the counter and went back to the computers and This may have been. Later she came back up to the counter and said to D'A who had just walked back in from lunch. "I'm excited. You wanna know why? I finally got someone to talk to me a little bit about ghost writing" At this point, D'A referred her to K (the Branch Manager) who was already coming up with the deputy to speak with the patron. At this point K and Deputy D begin speaking with the patron and explaining to her that she had to leave.

Edit: I thought you were the branch manager who got the deputy...? Did I just sleep read your whole last story? Hol up

There have been other incidents since I started here. A couple of women have come in dressed too skimpily for the dress code, one of them I caught and told the branch manager because she had no bra and was wearing this tank top with massive arm holes so her tits could be easily seen from the side when she leaned forward at the computer. Also there's this bad little boy who's been suspended from the library multiple times.
