I also did not know my name was Christina until my mom was enrolling me in Kindergarten. My family always called me Christy. When I moved from homeschooling to public school in 3rd grade, I decided I was going to be Christina at school, because it sounded fancier. Now I've only been Christina for so long, that its weird when my parents call me Christy.

Haha, I totally empathize with this - my birth name is extraordinarily common (there are like 375 of them on GW(F) too), and I would only ever get called one of two nicknames by family or friends. Any of those people busting out the full and proper name meant my ass was in trouble, so when it came time to learn how to spell it in school? Mind blown.
